TFA Media Release No. 10 – TFA Joins Up With AGRICHATUK for Twitter Debate on Farm Business Tenancies

TFA Joins Up With AGRICHATUK for Twitter Debate on Farm Business Tenancies

The Tenant Farmers Association is pleased to be working with AgrichatUK – the UK’s foremost, Twitter-based discussion forum for agriculture – which will be hosting a special on-line debate on Farm Business Tenancies on 28 May.

The TFA is running a year-long campaign to encourage longer term Farm Business Tenancies.  Entitled “FBT10+ too short for too long” the campaign aims to encourage the average length of Farm Business Tenancies up from the current low level of less than four years to at least 10 years.

TFA Chief Executive, George Dunn said “I am really pleased that we are working with the team at AgrichatUK which has led the way in encouraging online discussion and debate on a significant range of practical and policy related farming topics.  One of the things the TFA wants to achieve with our campaign is to raise the level of debate and discussion on this important topic and what better way to do this than through the medium of Twitter where literally anyone can take part.”

“The TFA has already identified a number of policy options which it believes the Government should be pursuing but I very much hope that through the debate there will be a range of new ideas and practical solutions identified that we can take forward into the campaign,” said Mr Dunn.

The ideas discussed during the AgrichatUK discussion will feed directly into an HSBC sponsored debate being held by the TFA, as a guest of Lord Curry, in the House of Lords on 17 June.  HSBC’s Head of Agriculture, Allan Wilkinson will be chairing the debate that evening which will be between TFA Chief Executive George Dunn and the CLA’s Head of Rural Surveying, Andrew Shirley.

“I hope that as many people as possible will join the Twitter debate on 17 May for this very important topic and I am extremely grateful to the team at AgrichatUK for agreeing to host it,” said Mr Dunn.
