Know your location – What3Words

Either working, living or visiting rural and remote areas of the world brings with it its difficulties, particularly not being able to pinpoint your location, explain your location or know your location. This is incredibly concerning if you are lost, want to meet someone or involved in an accident. Often many places do not have a specific address or the ‘sat nav’ doesn’t take you exactly there.

However, an ingenious “app” has been created “What3Words”, this provides a very easy way to identify your exact location. The creators of this app have divided the world into 57 trillion squares, each measuring 3m by 3m (10ft x 10ft) and each square has been assigned a unique and random 3 words address that will never change.

For example ///lake.award.panel marks the exact entrance to the TFA head office in Berkshire. These 3 words are easier to say and remember than coordinates but just as accurate. Both English and Welsh emergency services are signing up to this system, it cuts down any uncertainty or confusion of where you are. The phone app does not need a phone signal to tell someone their 3 word location, emergency services are urging everyone to download this free app as it has already saved lives.
