This TFA Farm Walk will begin at 4pm with introductions from the Siddorns followed by a look around Meadow Bank.  Afterwards there will be a light supper.

The Siddorn’s have been tenant farmers in the village of Broxton for many generations; they have paid rent to the same family of landlords for over 400 years.  They have farmed Meadow Bank for the last 115 years. Currently Meadow Bank consists of 200 acres on an AHA agreement and they farm a further 260 acres on 2 grazing agreements. The farming operation revolves around a very intensive HLS agreement, 1,200 pigs on a contract system, 35 breeding Original Population Herefords (classified as a rare breed), 400 to 600 breeding sheep on permanent tack, horse livery, small farm shop selling all beef produced, educational access, storage, selling standing crops of grass/maize/spring barley and the sale of fodder to local horses.

Keith and his father are the only staff on the farm and Keith holds a number of other voluntary positions both within the agricultural sector and outside of it.

Following the farm walk and while food is served there will also be a interactive talk by TFA Recommended Professional, Tony Rimmer from Rostons, where he will discuss the implications faced by tenant farmers if the suggested tenancy reforms put forward by DEFRA in their current consultation becomes legislation.

Representing the TFA will be TFA Farm Policy Adviser, Lynette Steel, who will be available to answer questions on DEFRA schemes, future farm policy post Brexit, air quality and water. TFA Regional Chair, Keith Faulkner and TFA Communications and Events Coordinator, Julia Meadows.

This is a free event open to any tenant farmer regardless if they are a TFA member and includes a light supper.  To enable us to accurately cater, places must be booked no later than 12 noon 17th May.  To register your interest in attending this event book your place here, or email or telephone 0118 930 6130.
