18 September – TFA Farm Walk in Wiltshire Print This Post

This TFA Farm Walk will be hosted in the Devizes area of Wiltshire on Wednesday 18 September.  To book your place, click here.

Kindly hosted by longstanding TFA and Wessex Region Committee members, Jonny and Rachael Rider, of Horton House Farm.

About the Farm:

Horton House Farm is a Crown Tenancy situated in the lush Pewsey Vale and extending to the chalk downlands above the valley. Their herd of 400 Organic & Pasture For Life certified cows have been milked once a day for twenty years & grazed on predominately herbal lays. A further 150 older dairy cows suckle & nurse the young calves for 6 months.

Jonny and Rachael are the third generation of the family to be rotational grazing on this farm & have adapted the grazing to have longer rotations & multiple shifts during the day to build organic matter & sward diversity.  Their crossbred herd is spring calved over 6 weeks using natural service & their milk is sold to Lye Cross Farm where it is made into an organic, antibiotic free, 100% grass fed cheddar for export to the USA.

The Riders also run a small flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep, a smaller herd of Tamworth pigs, a flock of travelling chickens and have an excessive amount of family pets!
