We Need Your Help
Members will be aware that TFA National Chairman, Greg Bliss, before taking office chaired a Working Group on the future of the TFA. Its remit was to consider how the Association could improve its service to members across all the activities in which the Association takes part.
From the questionnaire of members carried out by the Working Group there was a clear call from a significant number of members for more local meetings. The Association already runs spring and autumn roadshows covering 16 venues a year. However, we appreciate that sometimes it is difficult for members to access these venues even though we endeavour to move them around the country to gain the maximum coverage.
The TFA is therefore looking for members who would be happy to act in a volunteer capacity to be a local point of contact for TFA members. We would envisage that the maximum area we would expect such volunteers to cover would be county level but we suspect that more normally the areas will be even more local than that.
The local volunteers would be used from time to time by the Association to gain views from members on important issues and also to hear from local areas as to whether they would want an evening meeting on a specific issue which the Association could arrange in connection with the local representative at short notice. Anyone who feels they could help out in this way should contact the Chief Executive at Head Office.
Similarly, the Association is looking for individuals who would be prepared to assist the TFA in acting as experts in particular areas. The Association is often asked by the Government to comment on areas of policy where it would be extremely beneficial for the Association to have a practitioner’s view to inform our response.
We envisage using such experts as a sounding board and would not be seeking to tie up their time in attending meetings unless it was absolutely essential. In the main, we would be asking experts to consider the practical implications of the Government’s actions or inaction. Again, if you would like to volunteer to assist the Association on this basis, please contact the Association’s Chief Executive and let him know which particular area you would be interested to cover. It would be particularly good to have a range of individuals covering individual areas. For example we might have 6 or 7 members helping us on upland issues and 4 or 5 on beef issues. In that way we can ensure that we are getting a broad range of views to inform any responses we make.
